10 tips for new and returning students.
We hope you and your students enjoyed a well-deserved summer break and found a little time to relax, recharge, and make great memories.
As we kick off a brand-new school year, we extend a warm welcome back to our returning students and families, and an extra-special welcome to our new incoming families and students joining the Marshall community for the first time.
To help everyone start the year off on the right foot, our PTSA has gathered Ten Helpful Tips from current Marshall students. These insights are designed to make the transition from summer to school a little smoother — whether you’re a brand-new freshman or a seasoned upperclassman.
We hope you find them useful as you get back into the swing of things!

Annual Fund drive has launched!
State budget cuts have slashed this year’s school budget by roughly a million dollars. Please help us save important programs and resources! We are hoping to raise $50,000 in 30 days. If every family contributed $25, we’d meet our goal, but any amount is helpful and gratefully accepted.

Help wanted!
OK we admit it, we can’t do it all. We are very much in need of several more people to address the growing needs of our fledgling PTSA. If you can spare a handful of hours each month and attend a monthly board meeting, we would greatly appreciate it! We are seeking a Membership chairman, Programs chairman (planning events like Teacher Appreciation day) and a Parliamentarian. We are also seeking help for our Communications team (assisting with website maintenance and social media accounts).

Stadium light campaign
Marshall High School is one of the last remaining LAUSD high schools without stadium lights. In October of 2023, LAUSD approved a roughly $6 million dollar project to replace the turf and track and will begin construction in 2025. However, that amount does NOT include lights. Adding lighting will take an additional $2.6 million, of which LAUSD leadership has pledged to contribute $1.75 million. This amounts to a shortfall of ~$850,000.
